Why Man Utd could still sign De Jong, Antony AND Gakpo this summer
Manchester United have already spent £65 million this transfer window, and the impending confirmation of Casemiro's arrival will push this total way above £100m. But, their summer business is far from over.
The Red Devils have reportedly seen an €80m bid for Ajax's Brazilian star Antony rejected by the Amsterdam side, but reports have suggested that they're prepared to increase their offer in order to land the 22-year-old.
Antony, who played under Erik ten Hag at Ajax, is viewed as the solution to Man Utd's issues in the right wing position, and the club appear desperate to secure a deal to bring him to Old Trafford this summer.
After fixing their evident problem in defensive midfield with the addition of Brazilian international and Real Madrid legend Casemiro, Man Utd's attention has turned to other areas of the squad.
While they have been suggestions that the club's business may be nearing its end following the signing of Casemiro, it's been reported that this couldn't be further from the truth as Man Utd are ready to give Ten Hag the funds to fix the first-team squad.
Man Utd set to busy end to the window
According to The Mirror's Simon Mullock, Man Utd will continue to pursue deals for Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong, Ajax's Antony and PSV's Cody Gakpo, with the club prepared to spend big in order to improve the team.
The Red Devils sit rock bottom of the Premier League table after two games, following successive losses to Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford, and the owners are said to have given the green light for Ten Hag to spend a large sum of money in order to fix the problems that exist at Old Trafford.
The source claims that Man Utd are ready to go into the closing stages of the transfer window with 'all guns blazing' as they attempt to rectify a poor start to the season with considerable investment.
De Jong has been Ten Hag's number one target throughout the summer, but the Dutch international has so far stressed that he is happy to stay at Barcelona. On the other hand, Gakpo and Antony have been targeted as Man Utd look to improve their quality in attack. So far, their only goal in the 2022-23 season has been scored by Brighton's Alexis Mac Allister, who put it past his own goalkeeper at Old Trafford in the season opener.
