The Red Devils have shown interest in the Dutch forward, with previous target Antony being priced to highly by Ajax, forcing United to look at other targets.

Manager Erik ten Hag is believed to be a big admirer of the player, who was named Dutch Footballer of the Year last season after an impressive season in the Eredivisie.

Now, though, he’s being targeted by Europe’s biggest clubs, but has said his future will be determined by whether PSV make it to the Champions League group stages.

Gakpo future dependent on Champions League

The Dutch side beat Monaco in the third qualifying round, and will now have to overcome Rangers for a spot in the final 32 of Europe’s premier club cup competition.

Gakpo has been speaking on his future after PSV’s success over the French side: "We must first focus on and try to make it to the Champions League. Then it is more likely that I will stay."

He added to that, saying there’s a possibility of him staying in the Netherlands: "I don't think I have said anywhere that I am leaving, so there is definitely a chance that I will stay.

"I'm open for a cup of coffee with the management - or coffee for them and water for me. We'll see how it goes," he added later on.

Gakpo is PSV-honed player, having come through their ranks and making his debut for the first-team in 2018, playing 139 matches for them, scoring 45 goals.

Last season, Gakpo netted 21 goals in 47 appearances, and has already started this campaign with three goals in four matches, carrying on where he left off.

He is likely to be on the plane to Qatar in Louis van Gaal’s Dutch squad for the World Cup, having already become a regular with the national team since the Euros last year.

Manchester United turned attentions to Gakpo after Ajax were demanding a fee of around £80 million for Antony, while Gakpo’s asking price is about half of that.

United are keen to improve their attacking line and add more depth, and Gakpo can play across various positions in attack, making him of interest to Ten Hag and the Red Devils.
