The Red Devils picked up a confidence-boosting 2-1 success over Jurgen Klopp’s side, marking Erik ten Hag’s first win at the club, and want to strengthen their squad ahead of deadline day.

United have been linked to players like Antony, Frenkie de Jong and Cody Gakpo in recent times, and Ten Hag dropped hints that he wanted to bring in some new names ahead of the end of the window.

He spoke after the game, praising the recent signing of Casemiro – who’s transfer was made official before the match – and wants to add quality, not quantity.

“You can never tell," Ten Hag said, when asked about future incomings. "We said from the beginning we wanted to bring the right players in and not just any players.

"I think now we have the right player [in Casemiro], I'm sure of that. The window is not closed. You need numbers but not only numbers, you need quality.

“We gave so much and I think when you bring it on the pitch you will get stronger, physically [and] mentally. If you bring it every three days you need numbers and quality numbers."

He also spoke about the profile of player he wants to see in the side: "We need more leaders. When you want a winning team, you need more leaders.

“We have to bring it in every game, not only against Liverpool. We were talking about leadership and we were talking about leadership on the pitch but he [Casemiro] is one as well.”

There is a hope at the club that they can add another attacking player, one more midfielder and a goalkeeper to challenge the out-of-form David de Gea in order to complete the squad and equip them for the season.
