Matheus Cunha transfer to Man Utd: What is the latest?
Manchester United are stepping up their search for new attacking players, and have now eyed Atletico Madrid’s Matheus Cunha as a possible option for the team.
At the minute, Manchester United don’t have an agreement with the club, but are in talks with Cunha’s representatives over a possible deal.
This is something United would consider a possibility, as Atletico Madrid are keen to sell certain players to make money, and Cunha hasn’t set the world alight in his time at the Spanish capital.
Cunha only moved to Atletico Madrid last summer from Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin for a fee of around €26 million, and the player is reportedly open to moving once again.
Atletico won't negotiate fee
The Brazilian hasn’t, however, asked to leave the club and will continue to remain professional, believing in his chances of success in Spain if a move doesn’t go through.
He is hoping to be at a club where he has the best chances of playing so that he can claim a spot in the Brazil squad for the World Cup in the winter; he already has seven caps for the national team.
According to sources in Spain, Atletico Madrid aren’t willing to negotiate a fee, and United will have to pay the release clause to get their man, which is believed to be upwards of €50 million.

Cunha is on the list of forwards Manchester United are targeting in the final weeks of the window, the others are Stuttgart’s Sasa Kaladjzic and PSV’s Cody Gakpo.
United have also kept tabs on another Atletico Madrid forward in recent weeks: Alvaro Morata, but his impressive form for the club in pre-season and their La Liga opener might change the Spanish club’s stance on a transfer.
Cunha doesn’t have the best goalscoring record, but is renowned for his energy and would fit in well with Erik ten Hag’s pressing philosophies he is trying to employ at Old Trafford.
Prior to Atletico Madrid, Cunha was at Hertha Berlin between January 2020 and August 2021, and before that, he was at RB Leipzig from July 2018, having joined from Swiss side Sion, his first club in Europe.
