Why Man Utd's Rabiot move on the verge of collapse
Adrien Rabiot's proposed transfer to Manchester United is set for collapse, despite days of talk between the Premier League giants and the France international midfielder.
Rabiot had emerged as a target for the Red Devils in recent times as they struggled to get a deal over the line for Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong - a move they are still active in pursuing.
Their decision to move for the former PSG midfielder, though, proved to be a controversial one owing to the player's reputation as being difficult to manage.
Nevertheless, Man Utd are set to look at other options.
Rabiot transfer collapses
United managed to agree a fee with Juventus, but talks over personal terms have proven rather more difficult.
According to The Athletic, there is a sizeable distance between the wages United are prepared to offer Rabiot and what the player himself - advised by agent and mother Veronique - expects to be earning at Old Trafford.

Further to this, Di Marzio has said that the Premier League side see the demands of the player's entourage as being "obscene".
United were looking to place the midfielder amongst their highest earners, but that was apparently not enough for Rabiot, who demanded a bigger package that the club will not meet.
Who else could join?
While negotiations are not entirely dead, the Reds have begun to explore other options to add to their midfield - including Real Madrid star Casemiro, whose inclusion among potential targets caused some mirth when the news broke.
Brighton's Moises Caicedo, who put in a towering performance against United as the Seagulls won 2-1 at Old Trafford on the opening weekend of the Premier League season, has also been mentioned as a possibility, less than two years after the club turned down the chance to sign the Ecuador star from Independiente del Valle.
There is also still hope of convincing De Jong to sign, although that now seems an extremely unlikely prospect.
