Cristiano Ronaldo has made it clear all summer that he wishes to leave Manchester United, with the desire to play Champions League football next season.

Early in the transfer window, Ronaldo stated his wish to leave so that he can spend the final years of his career challenging for trophies and playing in Europe’s top club competition.

He has been turned down by several clubs including Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, citing age, financial reasons or his tactical fit in those respective teams.

However, despite his 24 goals last season and contribution to the team, many were happy to see that he was looking to move on, including some of his own team.

Team-mates happy to see Ronaldo leave

According to ESPN, the majority of Ronaldo’s Manchester United team-mates reacted with joy upon hearing the news that Ronaldo wanted to leave the club.

The Portuguese forward was described as a “pain in the a***”, and news of his willingness to leave was met with positivity, as United are looking to challenge domestically yet again.

There have been reports recently that coach Erik ten Hag has privately said that he is open to selling Ronaldo, despite his public stance that he wants to keep the player.

Earlier this month, it was said that Ronaldo’s behaviour had become frustrating and that he had been earing meals alone and reacting negatively to tactical instructions.

Additionally, he didn’t take well to Ten Hag shifting responsibility of the 4-0 defeat to Brentford onto the players and that further strained relations between player and coach.

That has led to Ronaldo being dropped from the squad and he hasn’t started any of their two Premier League wins this season, which came against Liverpool and Southampton.

Ronaldo himself has said he will reveal all truths in an interview after the transfer window: "They [will] know the truth when they interview [me] in a couple of weeks. The media is telling lies," he claimed on Instagram.

"I have a notebook and in the last few months of the 100 news I made, only 5 were right. Imagine how it is. Stick with that tip," Ronaldo added.
