Manchester United have cooled their interest in Kevin Trapp after Eintracht Frankfurt demanded a fee in the region of €25 million for the German goalkeeper.

Erik ten Hag is keen on signing another goalkeeper to provide competition for David De Gea and the United boss had reportedly given his approval towards a move for Trapp.

However, the 32-year-old is unlikely to be pursued due to the Bundesliga side's asking price and United are now set to move onto other targets, despite Trapp admitting he was flattered by the links.

The German international has two years left on his contract and has been shortlisted for the world goalkeeper of the year award after his heroics led Frankfurt to Europa League success last season.

Trapp previously spent three years at Frankfurt and signed for Paris Saint-Germain for €10m in 2015, where he made 63 Ligue 1 appearances before re-joining his former side in 2018.

Will United sign a goalkeeper this summer?

With just over a week left in the transfer window, Ten Hag is keen on signing up to four more players after the £70m arrival of midfielder Casemiro from Real Madrid.

The club are hoping to sign a keeper after allowing Dean Henderson to join Nottingham Forest on loan, leaving them with 36-year-old Tom Heaton as the only senior backup to De Gea.

De Gea is into the final year of his contract, although United have an option to extend it for a further 12 months, and the Spaniard could find his position under threat with a new arrival.

The 31-year-old endured an error-strewn display in the 4-0 loss at Brentford and it is believed that Ten Hag is looking for a quality goalkeeper to compete for the number one jersey at Old Trafford.

Bourissia Monchengladbach stopper Yann Sommer is another player that has been scouted by United, although sources have suggested that a deal will not be pursued for the 33-year-old.

Watford's Daniel Bachmann is another player who has been linked with a move to United but the search for a goalkeeper will likely go down to the wire.
