Cristiano Ronaldo looks set to stay at Manchester United beyond the final day of the transfer window, as chances of a move on the final day look slim.

Ronaldo has stated for much of the summer that he wishes to leave the Red Devils, but no firm offer has come the club’s way, ensuring that he remains at Old Trafford.

Clubs such as Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain have rejected the opportunity to sign Ronaldo, citing age, tactical fit or the high cost of the operation as their reasoning behind it.

There was hope from Ronaldo’s side that he could get a move to Napoli, with agent Jorge Mendes attempting to structure a deal that could’ve seen Victor Osimhen go the other way, but that has not happened.

Ronaldo set for Old Trafford stay

Napoli were interested in the transfer, with club President Aurelio De Laurentiis eager to bring a superstar over to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, but it’s unlikely that happens on the final day of the window.

Mendes was attempting to work a deal where Osimhen would go to Old Trafford – something he was open to doing – but the two clubs never started talks on a potential agreement.

Ronaldo wants to be at a club where he can play Champions League football and compete for titles in the final year of his career, which he believes won’t be possible if he remains at Manchester United.

Mendes was trying earlier in the window to get Manchester United to pull out of the deal for Ajax’s Antony and sign Osimhen instead but that won’t be happening.

There were also talks of a possible loan move for Osimhen to go to Old Trafford, with Ronaldo going the other way, but that too seems difficult to pull off at this late stage of the window.

The lack of interest in Ronaldo has made it difficult for him to find a new club, and he is going to have to settle for Europa League football for the first time since his teenage years at his first club, Sporting.
