Barcelona could pay a bargain price for Ruben Neves
Barcelona are hopeful that they will be able to sign Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves at a bargain price in the summer 2023 transfer window.
It has been reported in Spain that the Portugal international midfielder rejected the opportunity to move to Manchester United and Liverpool in the previous transfer period because he has hit heart set on a deal with the Camp Nou side.
Although Barcelona are still not out of their financial problems, clever manoeuvring by president Joan Laporta allowed them to splash the cash this summer. Quite how long this type of spending power lasts is up for debate and it would be little surprise to see the Catalans embark on a more modest transfer campaign in 12 months.
Barca have already made an artform of signing free agents, and while Neves will not quite fall into that category, Sport reports that they will be able to sign the highly rated player for a small fee.
How much will Barcelona pay for Ruben Neves
Wolves had hoped to sell Neves for €50 million in 2022 but there were no takers for the player. As he is out of contract in 2024, his price will be slashed next summer if he does not sign a new deal with the club.
Sport reports that Neves “has no intention of renewing his contract” with the Premier League side and wants to take a step up next summer. Wolves will lose their power in this case as a result, and while it is unclear what type of price they will be able to demand for the player, Laporta has already shown that by laying the groundwork cleverly with his transfer targets, he has an ability to get what he wants.
Neves is valued at €42m by FootballTransfers, with his range extending up to €52m.
Wolves signed the 25-year-old from Porto in 2017 for just €18m, and even at a cut-price figure, they will be able to sell him to Barcelona for more than that.
