Revealed: Grealish asks to leave Man City
Manchester City playmaker Jack Grealish is reportedly ready to cut his losses and seek a move away from the Etihad Stadium.
Grealish cost City around £105 million when he moved to the Premier League giants from Aston Villa in a blockbuster move during the summer of 2021.
But the England international has found it difficult to make his mark at the Citizens.
To date he has managed just seven goals in 44 games in all competitions since his transfer and has often been used as a substitute by City boss Pep Guardiola.
And according to Football Insider, he is now looking elsewhere.
Grealish has reportedly instructed his agent to find him a new club and has told those around him that he wants to leave City after less than two seasons at the Premier League champions.
The midfielder believes that Guardiola's signature playing style is ill-suited to his own game, making it hard for him to show off his true talents on the pitch.
His contract is worth £350,000 a week and will run until June 2028, though, posing a considerable financial obstacle for potential suitors.
De Bruyne defends struggling team-mate
Grealish has also attracted criticism for his behaviour off the pitch, but team-mate Kevin De Bruyne believes that his nationality attracts extra, unjust scrutiny.
“It is not about football. Outside of football, the focus is more on them [England players]. I understand because they are English and people tend to look more [at] what is happening," he told reporters while on international duty with Belgium.
“I feel like foreign players, for instance if you have a night out, we don’t really get checked that often," he told Whereas I feel if an English player goes out, it is always in the media somewhere.
"I think people are taking this on board also. What he does in his private life he does, nobody should care, but people do.”
