How Jurrien Timber is planning 2023 Man Utd move
Ajax defender Jurrien Timber has spoken about his future, amid rumours all summer that he could move to Manchester United to reunite with former boss Erik ten Hag.
At the start of the summer, Timber was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, as he was on the back of a brilliant season with his boyhood club.
However, a move never materialized as Timber was keen to keep his place in the Dutch national team and he rejected Manchester United’s advances, signing a new contract instead.
The saga isn’t over, though, and Manchester United are set to show interest once again next summer, hoping to bring in the centre-half to Old Trafford.
Timber in discussions with Ajax
Timber has been discussing the interest in a recent interview with Dutch outlet Algmeen Dagblad and says he has already discussed the issue with his club.
“Whether agreements have been made to make a transfer next year? That’s the intention, yes, but you never know how it will go. But that has been discussed well together with Ajax,” he said.
The defender is valued at around €50m, but that could rise given that he was recently named Eredivisie Player of the Season and Talent of the Season for the 2022-23 campaign.
🗣 Jurriën Timber on his decision to stay @AFCAjax:
“I think I still have a lot to learn and I'm here at the right place. I have plans to work further on my development. Money never played a role. #UCL was not a key factor. It was more a gut feeling.”

He is almost certainly the best and most consistent defender in the Dutch top-flight and is set to be on the plane to Qatar in time for the World Cup alongside Virgil van Dijk, Matthijs de Ligt, Stefan de Vrij and others.
Manchester United have already been busy doing business with Ajax this summer, and Erik ten Hag was the first of their staff that the English club brought over to Old Trafford.
Timber’s former defensive partner Lisandro Martinez was the first player to make the switch, and then winger Antony completed the biggest transfer of the summer in the final week of the transfer window.
