Arthur Melo only joined Liverpool on deadline day but he is already set for a return to Juventus after failing to impress Jurgen Klopp.

The Brazilian was a last-minute signing for Liverpool after they decided to bring in a midfielder to add depth following a host of injuries to key players.

The 26-year-old was already frozen out of the Juventus squad, allowing Liverpool to snap him up on loan with an option to make the move permanent for €37 million.

Arthur has played just 13 minutes for his new side so far, coming off the bench in Liverpool’s 4-1 loss to Napoli in the Champions League and a report from Tuttomercatoweb suggests Klopp has seen enough.

The Liverpool boss appears to be unconvinced by Arthur’s ability and the club may now look to bring in another midfielder in January.

Should a replacement be found, the former Barcelona man is likely to have his loan terminated, although Juventus have no interest in keeping him.

Liverpool’s midfield woes

The signing of Arthur raised eyebrows to some, with him already deemed not good enough by Juventus, however Liverpool were ultimately desperate for reinforcements.

The club had attempted to sign Aurelien Tchouameni in the summer but the Frenchman ended up signing for Real Madrid for a fee of €100m and Liverpool opted against pursuing an alternative.

Klopp had previously insisted his side did not need a midfielder but his stance altered after their disappointing start to the season which saw Liverpool fail to win their opening three Premier League games.

With Thiago, Naby Keita, Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all injured, Klopp was forced to rely on veterans James Milner and Jordan Henderson alongside Fabinho.

Liverpool’s primary target is believed to be Jude Bellingham and they are expected to fiercely target the Dortmund star next summer, hence why a midfielder wasn’t initially considered a priority.

But, with Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Milner all in the final year of their contracts, Liverpool will likely need multiple midfielders and they may accelerate plans to sign one in January, with Brighton’s Moises Caicedo a potential target.
