Gomes was of interest to clubs in England such as Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea, but has now signed an extension with Flamengo, keeping him there until 2027.

Liverpool have been on the market for a new midfielder having seen several injury issues hamper their squad in recent weeks, with some players missing for the long-run.

They signed Arthur on loan from Juventus on deadline day this summer, but are looking for more reinforcements, and ideally something more long-term as they wish to challenge the top.

Gomes an admirer of Liverpool

Gomes is well-renowned for his ball-winning ability, and he’s also a fine dribbler, with the ability to carry the ball higher up the pitch, proving worthwhile the Reds style of play.

Additionally, he’s also a good passer which makes him more suited to this Liverpool side, with the ability to push the ball forward with his range of passing.

Gomes has been talking up the transfer: he was asked who he’d like to play for in a question on Instagram, to which he responded positively about a move to the Reds.

"Liverpool are a team I’d play for,” Gomes said. “I have the greatest desire to play. Playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream and that of my family, my biggest dream in football."

Gomes’ previous deal was set to expire in 2025, but that has now been extended by a further two years and given that he is still only 21, he won’t come in cheap.

Factor in that other clubs across England are also interested in him, he won’t be easy to get and Liverpool will have to move quickly if they are to get their man.
