Revealed: The four players Man Utd plan to sign in January
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is keen to strengthen four positions in the winter transfer window as he looks to build on a positive start to the season.
Ten Hag oversaw the club’s summer transfer activity and got players he knew well or those he felt could fit in his system with ease, including Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia, Antony and more.
The club want to have a less hectic transfer window in January and next summer, and have already started planning for it to make it simpler for themselves and the Dutch manager.
As a result, there are four positions identified that need strengthening, and United will want to act fast to improve in those respective areas in the coming windows.
Ten Hag has four priorities
The priority is to sign another forward, as the club are short in that area: Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave and his future is unclear, while Anthony Martial constantly suffers from injury issues.
Another area they want to improve in is at right-back: Diogo Dalot has done well, so they want to give him competition, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka is seemingly on his way out having been out of favour under Ten Hag.
🗣 Erik ten Hag on how he’ll spend the international break: “We will have many meetings, we have to improve the structures in and around the club. We will also look to the window in January or next summer already. But, also to improve our way of play by making plans.” [MUTV]

In goal, David de Gea hasn’t had the best start to the campaign, and Martin Dubravka was brought in to compete, but United may be looking at a long-term number one option given the Spaniard’s contract is running out soon.
Finally, in midfield, Ten Hag may feel his options are limited, and will want to add more depth, given that Christian Eriksen has rarely been rested and that department is quite thin for Manchester United.
Lots of players have been targeted in recent times ranging from Brian Brobbey to Denzel Dumfries, Frenkie de Jong to Diogo Costa and beyond, and it’ll be interesting to see who United act on as they hope to improve their squad.
