Manchester United have had a busy summer transfer window, with several incomings, outgoings and loan moves as they looked to refresh their squad over the transfer window.

The club had their biggest ever expenditure in a single transfer window as they wished to improve the team following a disappointing season last time around.

Cristiano Ronaldo made it his desire to leave, but a move for him never arrived as clubs backed out for a variety of reasons, leaving him to play another season at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag, though, got many of his transfer wishes as he brought in a few players from his successful Ajax teams and several others with Eredivisie links.

Manchester United completed the biggest transfer of the summer in the form of Antony as they ended up forking out £85.5 million for the Brazilian winger, making him the biggest signing of the summer for any club.

Casemiro was a quick deal, completed in less than a week after United’s poor start to the season and the five-time Champions League winner left Real Madrid for Old Trafford.

Lisandro Martinez was widely adored in Ten Hag’s team at Ajax and the coach wanted to bring him to Old Trafford to support – he was signed after weeks of negotiations.

He wasn’t the only signing from the Eredivisie as Tyrell Malacia was brought in from Feyenoord to fill in at the left-back position, having done well there in the Netherlands.

Christian Eriksen was signed on a free transfer as his contract with Brentford ran out, while Martin Dubravka joined on loan from Newcastle United to add competition to the goalkeeping department.

A key part of the transfer window was to let go of players and Andreas Pereira was the biggest sale as he went to Premier League rivals Fulham early in the summer.

Tahith Chong also ended his Manchester United career after a series of loan spells away and he moved to Birmingham City, who he played for on loan last season.

There was a loan deal for Eric Bailly, who went to Ligue 1 side Marseille, and that loan will become permanent if the French side qualify for the Champions League this season.

There were several players released following the expiry of their contracts: Paul Pogba was the most high profile one and he made a return to Juventus.

Jesse Lingard was adamant on leaving last season and he joined Nottingham Forest, while Nemanja Matic reunited with Jose Mourinho at Roma in Italy.

Edinson Cavani was let go after a two-year stay and he moved to Spain to join Valencia, while Juan Mata made a late move to Galatasaray in Turkey as he was adamant on wanting European football.

In addition to releasing underperforming players, Manchester United also loaned out a few – Alex Telles was arguably the most notable one as he went to Sevilla.

Dean Henderson was disappointed with his lack of game time at Manchester United and he got a Premier League move to Nottingham Forest.

There was then a trio of Championship moves for youngsters: Amad Diallo, Hannibal Mejbri and Alvaro Fernandez went to Sunderland, Birmingham City and Preston North End respectively.
