Manchester United are planning to extend the contracts of several of their players to avoid a mass exodus at the end of the season, as many players are approaching the end of their deals at Old Trafford.

The club already saw several players leave on a free this season, including Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata, and are keen to avoid a repeat next summer.

They plan to spend the next few months extending deals for several players they have, and wish to get it all done by the time the January transfer window rolls around.

Now, the Manchester Evening News are suggesting Manchester United are ready to get proceedings underway to hand their players extensions or new contracts.

Man Utd set to offer new deals

Marcus Rashford is one of the players considered – his deal runs out in 2023 and there was interest in him in the summer from Paris Saint-Germain, where Luis Campos is an admirer.

Rashford has started the season in top form, scoring three goals and providing two assists in Manchester United’s opening six league matches.

David de Gea is another player who Manchester United wish to hand a new deal too, and he has an option to extend his deal by a further year, as his contract expires next year.

De Gea has had a tough start to the campaign, with his errors in the first part of the season costing Manchester United dearly as they lost their opening two matches.

Diogo Dalot has been a regular feature under Erik ten Hag this season and has generally impressed, especially in their recent winning run.

Like the two before, his contract also runs out next year and as the club don’t have other options at right-back, they will have to extend the Portuguese’s deal.

The other two players United want to offer new deals to are Luke Shaw and Fred, who they first held talks with back in May, after approval from Ten Hag.

Manchester United are keen to continue refreshing their squad, having spent big on their team, but they are still lacking in certain areas, and keeping hold of some players will be important.
