Revealed: Chelsea player who caused Tuchel and Boehly fall-out
Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly and manager Thomas Tuchel had a disagreement over the sale of midfielder Billy Gilmour, after the player was sold to Brighton.
Gilmour was believed to be one of Chelsea’s brightest academy talents, but he completed a deadline day move to Brighton for a fee of £9 million.
The midfielder had a spell on loan at Norwich City and struggled to make an impression, as the Canaries were relegated from the Premier League once again
Now, it’s believed that the sale of the player has caused a conflict between boss and manager, as Tuchel was open to the departure while Boehly wasn’t.
Tuchel and Boehly disagreed over sale
Tuchel discussed Gilmour’s future a few weeks ago: “We had high hopes and he played for us in the first half-a-year when I was at Chelsea, played some important matches for us and looked for a new challenge that did not go so well for him with Norwich.”
The German boss added: “We expected more, he expected more so it was like, without pointing a finger, but it is difficult also for him and for us to not succeed, to not play at Norwich, to be relegated and then suddenly be a central midfielder for Chelsea and competing for top four and for every title.”
Thank you for everything @ChelseaFC. I’ve developed so much here and met people who will be friends for life. I’ve grown from a young boy to a man but I feel now is the time to make the next step in my career. Good luck and all the best! Once a blue, always a blue! 💙👊🏼 pic.twitter.com/12RMoSHFpG

Tuchel later revealed that another loan was on the cards, but it was Gilmour who wanted the permanent sale as it ideally would’ve been better for his long-term future.
“Ideally it would have been another loan. Billy did not want to go on loan, it was a no-go for him so in the end we agreed to a sale,” Tuchel said.
It’s revealed by Give Me Sport that Boehly backed Tuchel’s decision to sell, even though he didn’t want a permanent departure for the midfielder anyways.
Boehly and Chelsea’s other owners recognised the midfielder’s potential, and were eager to keep him, and it’s unclear whether there’s a buy-back clause in his contract to bring Gilmour back to Stamford Bridge in the future.
