Brighton have set an astronomical transfer fee for which they will be willing to release star midfielder Moises Caicedo.

Caicedo has taken the Premier League by storm since making his debut towards the end of the 2021-22 season and is now established as a cornerstone of the Seagulls' starting XI.

Still only 20, the Ecuador international has been ever-present for the club in this year's Premier League campaign and he played all 90 minutes in Saturday's 4-1 thrashing of Chelsea, managed by his former mentor Graham Potter.

Both Manchester United and Liverpool are said to be huge admirers of Caicedo's talent, with the former having tracked him even before he moved to the south coast from Independiente del Valle in 2021.

Potter is also reportedly keen to engineer a reunion with his old charge at Stamford Bridge this January, while Newcastle sporting director Dan Ashworth oversaw his transfer from Ecuador during his time at Brighton and would also jump at the chance of signing him again.

But all four clubs have now been warned they would have to break the bank to get their man.

Brighton, according to the Mirror, have set an £85 million asking price for Caicedo, a fee which would rank him among the most expensive players under the age of 21 in football history.

Caicedo's thoughts on future

Speaking back in September, Caicedo insisted that he was in no rush to leave the Amex Stadium.

"I’m very happy here at Brighton," he said.

"I’m not thinking about any other club than Brighton. This is the club where I am now and I will give everything for this club and to keep doing well here."

The midfielder broke through the ranks at Independiente in 2019 while still just 17, and the following year became a regular starter at senior level for Ecuador.

He is now gearing up for his first World Cup in Qatar, after helping the Tricolor back to the competition following their failure to qualify in 2018.
