Chelsea to discuss Zakaria future amid difficult loan spell
Chelsea signed Denis Zakaria on loan from Juventus in the final hours of the summer transfer window but have a dilemma ahead of them with regards to his future.
The Swiss midfielder hasn’t yet played under new manager Graham Potter following Thomas Tuchel’s sacking and there have been doubts about whether he will continue with the Blues.
Zakaria was wanted by Tuchel and he got his wish on the final day of the transfer window, with the Swiss midfielder making a move with the option to buy available to them.
However, things are complicated and Chelsea will discuss the player’s future in the coming weeks to see what can be done about the situation.
Chelsea discussing Zakaria future
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano discussed the Swiss midfielder’s future at Stamford Bridge amid a complicated situation for him.
“It’s not been easy for Denis Zakaria – he looked set to stay at Juventus before Chelsea decided to go for him in the final few hours of the transfer market. Chelsea signed him on loan with a purchase option of €20m, plus €4m in add-ons,” Romano explained.
“I’m told this deal will be discussed again because the situation is worrying – he’s not playing, he was wanted by Thomas Tuchel and he planned to have him as a starter.
Denis Zakaria has not played a single minute with Chelsea, as of now. He’s in difficult position as Thomas Tuchel wanted him while Juventus had him in consideration. 🔵 #CFC

“Still, under Graham Potter he’s not playing, he’s not even on the bench. This is why the clubs and player will speak again, because at the moment this deal makes no sense for anyone involved.
“And let’s see what Chelsea will do in midfielders in January or next summer. They wanted Frenkie de Jong in the summer and Jude Bellingham will be on the market next summer, with many clubs interested.”
How Chelsea deal with this will be interesting to see as it could affect their future plans: Potter does not plan to use him anytime in the near future, and releasing him from his loan spell could be an option for the Blues.
