Chelsea and Liverpool have become the latest clubs to be linked with a move for Bruno Guimaraes but the Premier League duo would be wasting their time pursuing the Newcastle midfielder.

Guimaraes has established himself as one of the most complete and in-form midfielders in the country since signing for Newcastle for £42 million in January.

The 24-year-old has scored seven times in 26 games and his passing, defensive and creative stats rank among the highest of all players in the Premier League.

His form has drawn admiration from a host of sides but Guimaraes himself has insisted he has no plans to leave Newcastle and wants to ‘become a legend’ at the club.

Newcastle are already reportedly planning to offer Guimaraes a new long-term contract that could see him become the club’s highest-ever earner with wages of around £200,000 a week.

With Real Madrid also circling, Newcastle will certainly face a fight to keep their star player but it’s a battle they are well equipped to contest as they look to continue their rise to the top.

BRU-NO: Guimaraes not thinking of Real Madrid

A match made in heaven on Tyneside

Guimaraes has become the heartbeat of Newcastle’s team and the face of the club’s sporting project since the Saudi takeover a year ago, instantly adapting and settling on Tyneside.

The Brazilian has become a vocal leader in the dressing room and is adored by the club’s fans, something which is believed to be a strong factor in his desire to remain in Newcastle, particularly having recently become a father for the first time.

His profile has also grown in Brazil since moving to the Premier League and he is expected to be a big part of his country’s upcoming World Cup campaign.

With the player settled in his environment, continuing to develop for club and country and in line for a major pay rise, there doesn’t seem to be much reason for Guimaraes to consider leaving Newcastle at this time.

While the Magpies aren’t currently playing in Europe, they sit fourth in the Premier League currently and are showcasing themselves as one of the division’s best-performing teams under Eddie Howe.

Newcastle also see Guimaraes as a player who can help them continue to grow their profile worldwide and believe selling him would severely damage their progression as a club.

While Guimaraes has admitted he is flattered to be linked with Real Madrid, who are believed to want him if their move for Jude Bellingham fails next summer, he has spoken repeatedly of his belief that Newcastle could eventually challenge for trophies at the highest level.

With Newcastle certainly not in need of the money and the player keen to see how far he can go as the focal point of the club’s project, any interested clubs may find themselves disappointed when chasing Guimaraes in the future.
