The Blues are set to have big changes to their midfield in the summer next year, as N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are in the final months of their contracts at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have offered Kante an extension, but are unable to reach an agreement with the Frenchman, while Jorginho has been linked with clubs such as Barcelona for a free transfer in 2023.

Now, players from across Europe are being linked with moves to Stamford Bridge, and a move next year could be a real possibility, including for one Newcastle star.

Chelsea eyeing four players

According to journalist Simon Phillips, there are four players Chelsea are primarily looking at to improve their midfield options in the coming windows.

Ajax’s Mexican star Edson Alvarez is one of the choices – he’s been in impressive form for Ajax this season and was previously a target for the Blues in the summer transfer window, but it was too late to get the move done.

Juventus’ Weston McKennie is another option – he’s been linked with a move away from Turin with clubs such as Manchester United and Tottenham linked with a move for him as well.

More locally, there are two choices: Brighton’s Moises Caicedo has been improving since arriving in the Premier League but Chelsea will face competition from Liverpool and Manchester United to get his signature.

Finally, the most ambitious move will be for Bruno Guimaraes of Newcastle, although this will cost the club plenty – possibly a club-record fee, given he has been arguably the Magpies’ best player since arriving in January.

Other clubs such as Real Madrid have also reportedly been interested in Guimaraes, and he won’t be a cheap buy – the transfer fee could rise up to €100 million for the 24-year-old Brazilian.

How Chelsea manage this situation will be interesting to see as there is an eagerness to sign a player and they are willing to spend big to secure a new signing.
