Chelsea are prepared to offer Mason Mount a new contract after his impressive run of form over the last few weeks and ensure he’s committed to the club for the foreseeable future.

There have been doubts over his future at the club, with Mount’s contract at the club expiring at the end of next season and Chelsea eager to avoid losing him on a free.

Mount has been a consistent figure in the Chelsea first team since breaking through three years ago and Chelsea want to reward that in the next few weeks with a new deal.

The Blues see him as an integral part of their young team and expect him to have a big role to play under new manager Graham Potter, who has had a fine start to life at Chelsea himself.

Mount set to double wages

Mount’s current deal sees him earn £75,000 and Chelsea are set to double that in the bid of keeping the 23-year-old at the club for a long time.

They recently handed a new deal to Reece James in a similar range and on a six-year contract, and it’s expected that they will do something similar in the case of Mount.

This is part of Chelsea’s Vision 2030 – a model to ensure their best academy talents are utilized well in the first team and don’t slip through the club’s fingers for little to no return.

They’re also building a younger core for their team, as suggested by signings such as Wesley Fofana, Marc Cucurella, Carney Chukwuemeka and others.

Mount was brought into the side by Frank Lampard, and later managers such as Thomas Tuchel and Potter have all kept him in the first-team, admiring him for what he brings to the team off the ball.

Some of Europe’s top clubs were keeping tabs on the situation in case Mount’s contract renewal talks fell through, which is why Chelsea were eager to wrap up business quickly.
