The Dutch boss has had some impressive results, such as wins over Liverpool and Arsenal, but has also suffered some embarrassments against the likes of Brentford and Manchester City.

In the hope of getting a response after the defeat against Manchester City, he wanted his players to learn more about the history of the club and was shocked by the players’ lack of education of the club.

It’s been revealed that the players weren’t aware of the club’s history as much as he had hoped and wants them to learn more about it than they currently know.

Ten Hag "shocked" by players

A source revealed: “The manager was furious with the performance against City. He was saying to the players that anyone representing Manchester United cannot freeze and get beaten so badly.

“He said: ‘You’re playing for Manchester United. Do you not know what that means, given the history of the club?’” adding that his own knowledge of the club was quite strong.

The source added: “He asked them what they knew about the club. When some said they had never been to look around the museum or only walked through it, he was astounded.

“He’s visited twice since joining this summer. He has told all the players they need to make time to go in either before it opens or after it closes, so they can learn more about what it means to represent United.”

He got a response since that Manchester City defeat as they came from behind to beat Omonia Nicosia in the Europa League and secured a 2-1 success over Everton in the Premier League on Sunday evening.
