Erling Haaland’s transfer to Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in the summer is proving to be a major headache for Football Manager 2023, which is just weeks for being released.

Haaland’s scoring rate for Man City this season has been formidable – he has bagged 20 goals in 14 games, including 15 in just 10 league matches – and it is proving to be a problem for the video game franchise, who failed to appreciate the impact the 22-year-old would have in the Premier League.

The striker, the highest-valued player in the world according to FootballTransfers, has been earmarked as a wonderkid in Football Manager for several years and has quickly established himself as one of the biggest stars on the planet.

Haaland is a human cheat code

Indeed, studio director Miles Jacobson has suggested the Norway international is causing real-life bugs in the Premier League, despite scoring at the rate of a goal-per-game for Dortmund before his €60 million summer transfer.

Speaking to FourFourTwo, he said: “I had to reject a screenshot that said: ‘Haaland scores his 60th goal of the season. We’ve done a bit of work on that… now it looks like he could do it in real life. Haaland causes bugs on his own: in real life and in the game.

“The guy is even better than I thought he was going to become. I don’t think he’s human but what a player to watch. What an inspiration to young kids to work because obviously he’s got natural talent but he works so hard.

“Such a good role model and I’m glad that so many people heard about him first in Football Manager!”

Haaland is also set to change the habits of Football Manager players, with many more users set to play for Manchester City now that the Norway star can’t be signed on the cheap as in previous versions of the game.
