Haaland eats hearts to help score more goals
Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has revealed that he eats hearts as part of a remarkable diet that has fired him to the top of the game.
While Lionel Messi goes largely vegetarian during the football season, the Norway international has chosen to go to the other end of the spectrum in eating a diet that sees him consume an incredible 6000 calories per day.
And Haaland’s lifestyle choices appear to be paying off. He already has 20 goals for the season with Manchester City and is on course to smash all kinds of records.
The former Borussia Dortmund and Red Bull Salzburg striker revealed his quirky diet, which holds similarities to Hannibal Lecter in the Oscar-winning Silence of the Lambs movie, in the documentary ‘Haaland: The Big Decision’.
Showing off the liver and heart of a cow, he said: “Other people don’t eat this, but I am concerned with taking care of my body.
“I think eating quality food that is as local as possible is the most important.
“People say meat is bad for you but which? The meat you get at McDonald’s?
“Or the local cow eating grass right over there? I eat the heart and the liver.”
Haaland inspired by Ronaldo
Haaland’s diet is inspired by that of Cristiano Ronaldo.
“He was told a story by Patrice Evra about a lunch he had with Ronaldo, and Cristiano had fish, nothing else. Erling now tries to do the same,” Alfie, his father, explained.
Ronaldo, meanwhile, has a famously strict diet and notably caused Coca-Cola’s shares to plunge when he moved a bottle at a press conference and implored anyone watching to drink water instead.
Previously, the Manchester United star has explained the secrets of his diet.
“I eat a high protein diet, with lots of wholegrain carbs, fruit and vegetables, and avoid sugary foods,” he said.
Ronaldo’s food choices have clearly done him no harm, and the signs are that Haaland will enjoy success with a similar diet.
