Man Utd eye yet another Ajax star to improve midfield
Manchester United spent much of the summer in talks with Ajax over some of their players, and ended up landing two of them in Antony and Lisandro Martinez.
That relationship may not be over yet as Manchester United are being linked to another Ajax player with a move in the future looking like a possibility.
The Red Devils spent big in the summer window and they still need to make improvements to their squad in various areas, and an Ajax player could be a possibility.

They are looking at the possible signing of Mexican midfielder Edson Alvarez, and they will look to fight off competition to bring the player over to Old Trafford.
Alvarez an option for Man Utd
According to Calciomercato, Erik ten Hag is in the market for a new midfielder, in addition to a new right-back, goalkeeper and striker.
The club signed Christian Eriksen and Casemiro, but still want to add players in that department to add more quality in the depth of their side.

Alvarez worked with Ten Hag at Ajax between 2019 and 2022, and has grown to the player he is today under his tutelage at the Amsterdam club.
Previously, Chelsea were interested in Alvarez and were eager to make a move for him on deadline day, but that was ruled out as Ajax didn’t want to lose any more players in the transfer window.
Other than that, Barcelona also see Alvarez as an option to succeed Sergio Busquets and could make a move for him in the future as they look to improve in that area.
Transfer rumour: Barcelona is looking to sign a pivot [in January] to ease the more than likely departure of Sergio Busquets next summer. They are looking at various players across Europe. One of them is Edson Álvarez.

In the summer, Ajax wanted €50 million for Alvarez – something clubs were unwilling to pay – and it’s expected that they’ll demand the same fee from any side in the future.
There was also a suggestion that they’d be willing to sell the player in the winter, and those claims may be intensified following their Champions League elimination earlier in the week.
