Manchester United will regret not signing Moises Caicedo when they had the chance, according to South American football expert Tim Vickery.

Caicedo has made an impact for Brighton this season and is on the radar of several clubs across Europe – he even scored against Manchester United in their opening game of the campaign.

The Red Devils were heavily linked with a move for Caicedo when he was an emerging youngster at Independiente del Valle in Ecuador, but didn’t make a move.

Now, it’s been suggested that Manchester United will regret the decision as any future move for him will cost them a lot more money.

Man Utd have Caicedo regret

Vickery told Give Me Sport this week about Caicedo: "Manchester United could have had him first and really for a song. They thought the deal was too complex, I think.”

He later added: "But, for the amount of money, it was worth taking a chance on him and I think they've lived to regret that since.

“That's the direction that he's certainly going in because I think any club can do with a midfielder with those all-round characteristics."

At the time, Manchester United could’ve signed Caicedo for as little as £4.5 million, but he could be worth about 10 times that if they are to go for him now.

Manchester United walked out of the deal due to concerns over the high agent fees that they would have to pay in order to get Caicedo, which is now proving to be a mistake.

They signed Christian Eriksen and Casemiro this summer, but are still looking to add to their midfield and a player of Caicedo’s profile would do them no harm.

If they are to move for him, they will face stern competition for his signature as the likes of Liverpool are also eyeing a move for him in the near future.
