Manchester United are looking for attacking options in a bid to bolster their forward line and have targeted a host of players for the role.

The Red Devils are thin on options in attack: Marcus Rashford is their leading man, Anthony Martial’s fitness is often a doubt and Cristiano Ronaldo’s future is still unclear.

Erik ten Hag has now identified three forwards that can fill the role in the coming transfer windows, and one of them may have been recommended in the past.

According to the Mirror, Lille’s Jonathan David, Bayer Leverkusen’s Patrik Schick and Lyon’s Moussa Dembele are on Ten Hag’s shortlist for the future.

Schick was recommended by Rangnick

One of the trio – Schick – was recommended to the club previously by interim boss Ralf Rangnick, when he was in charge between November and June last year.

It’s well known that many of Rangnick’s targets and suggestions in the past were ignored in his time at Manchester United, leaving the German frustrated.

The likes of Luis Diaz and Dusan Vlahovic were all identified as potential Manchester United players, but those recommendations were ignored.

Now, journalist Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Schick was also suggested by Rangnick in the past, but the club didn’t make a move for him.

“There’s some talk again of Patrik Schick being an option for Manchester United,” Romano said. “He was one of the players scouted under Ralf Rangnick, but now there are still no contacts ongoing.

“I think he’s very talented player, but needs to be more consistent; for sure, he could be a good option for many big clubs in the Premier League.”

Schick would represent good value for the club, having scored 24 goals in 31 appearances across all competitions last season, although things haven’t been quite as rosy in this campaign.

Bayer Leverkusen have had a tough start to the season, and that has reflected in Schick’s form, but there is room for improvement given the talent in the side and Schick’s own qualities.
