Manchester United are already looking ahead to a possible future without Marcus Rashford.

Rashford made his debut for the Red Devils back in 2015 at the age of 18 but despite his obvious talents has struggled to make a consistent impact for his boyhood club over the years.

The 2021-22 season marked his worst to date at senior level, as the 24-year-old netted just five times in 32 games in all competitions.

There are signs, however, that Rashford is turning the corner under new manager Erik ten Hag.

The England international received the nod to start up front over veteran Cristiano Ronaldo and so far has rewarded Ten Hag's faith with five goals in his first 12 games, already equalling the modest tally posted last term.

A certain uncertainty over his future nevertheless remains.

Rashford is out of contract next summer, though his club has the option to extend the link a further year should they wish.

And if it appears that the striker is on the way out, the Red Devils have an exciting young replacement reportedly lined up.

Cody Gakpo was the subject of strong attentions from Old Trafford over the last transfer window before ultimately deciding to stay put at PSV as United raided rivals Ajax for Antony.

But his current electrifying form in the Netherlands has caught United's eye once more.

Gakpo boasts 13 goals and 11 assists in just 19 games so far this term, helping his side battle for the summit in the Eredivisie alongside Ajax.
