Tottenham Hotspur have been told that selling Harry Kane for a fee of £88 million would represent "good business" as the England captain continues to be linked with a move away.

Kane, came through the Tottenham academy, but has previously expressed a desire to leave his boyhood club. Last summer, the Englishman was close to signing for Manchester City before Daniel Levy pulled the plug on the deal.

Instead, Man City waited until the 2022 summer transfer window to solve their gaping hole at striker and signed Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland.

As for Kane, he has stayed put at Tottenham, and with Antonio Conte at the helm, the Lilywhites are currently in the fight for the Premier League title.

However, despite his impressive goal tally at Spurs, much has been made of the empty trophy cabinet that currently haunts Kane. With Tottenham unable to lift a piece of silverware since 2008, he's yet to win a trophy during his entire career at the club, and at 29 years old, time is running out. Furthermore, his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is set to expire in 2024.

Therefore, a move away has been heavily linked, with CBS reporter Ben Jacobs revealing: "Chelsea are the more likely threat [than Man City] coming from the Premier League at the moment. They will look at Harry Kane for sure.

"Todd Boehly is very keen on showing Chelsea can bring in proven Premier League players, particularly attack-minded players.

"They want a marquee name from within the Premier League, they want to bring in someone to hit the ground running, look at Gabriel Jesus, how beneficial he has been to Arsenal.

"Jesus has just been able to transition instantly, Kane would be able to transition instantly."

On the other hand, according to Munich newspaper TZ, Bayern are prepared to spend £88m on Kane next summer, with CEO Oliver Kahn and head coach Julian Nagelsmann both admirers of the player.

What has been said?

Former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson has had his say on the matter, revealing to Football Insider: "I think £88million for a player with 12 months left on his contract would be good business.

"Regardless of who you are, that is a big transfer fee considering you are into the final year of your contract. That would be a pretty good deal for Spurs. Do not get me wrong though, Spurs have to exhaust every opportunity to tie him down to a new deal, He is invaluable and, in many ways, irreplaceable.

"There are few players in the world on his level. To replace him is almost impossible. They have to do everything they can to get him to sign a new deal. If he doesn’t sign one, £88million would be a great deal. Clubs allow players to leave on a free far too often.

"It really frustrates me when clubs don’t protect their assets. Knowing Spurs, I’m sure talks are already going on behind the scenes about Kane’s future. You do not leave something like that to the last minute."
