Lukaku returned to Inter this season having spent the last campaign at Chelsea, where he had an unsuccessful tenure under the management of Thomas Tuchel.

He had a bad start to last season and by December 2021, his realized his decision to leave Inter was the wrong one and was looking to make a comeback.

The Belgian got his wish and got a loan move to Inter, but his time has been plagued by injury and he may have more problems awaiting them in the future.

Chelsea want Lukaku return

It was believed that Inter would agree a deal to extend the loan spell by a further year before agreeing a permanent transfer the year later as the Italians got their finances in order.

However, according to Calciomercato, Chelsea don’t want another loan and want to get Lukaku off their books as quickly as possible, hoping for a permanent sale.

They are willing to look for other clubs who will be willing to seal a permanent deal and aren’t solely relying on Inter to get the transfer completed.

The Blues want to make some money back on him having spent a mammoth €115 million on his transfer, plus another €10 million in bonuses, and it hasn’t paid off.

Lukaku’s first spell at Chelsea between 2011 and 2014 wasn’t a great one either and having proven himself elsewhere after leaving, he was hoping to do well in his second stint, but that too wasn’t great.

He’ll be hoping he can make more of his Inter spell and wants to get fit quickly for them – his World Cup participation is already in doubt as he is still struggling for fitness.
