De Gea has had a mixed campaign, starting in difficult fashion but things have improved slightly for him and his club, perhaps indicating that he may have a future there.

He has been at Manchester United for 11 years but there have been criticisms of his playing style, with many suggestions that he isn’t fit for manager Erik ten Hag’s plans.

There have been links to Unai Simon of Athletic Club in recent times, but those are being denied by new reports over the last few days.

Unai Simon to Man Utd?

Earlier in the weeks, Manchester United were reportedly interested in Simon, who replaced De Gea in the Spanish national team as they look for a new goalkeeper.

It was believed that Simon would cost around €40 million, something Manchester United would be willing to pay for a new number one.

However, journalist Fabrizio Romano has now denied that Manchester United are interested in Simon and that there are no moves being planned for any goalkeepers in the January transfer window.

“No, honestly I’m not aware of any talk between Manchester United and Unai Simon or his agents. I think he’s very good goalkeeper but at the moment the goalkeepers market in general is really quiet; it’s always kind of domino for the goalkeepers and I don’t see big things changing in January.”

Other than Simon, Manchester United have been keeping tabs on players like Diogo Costa of Porto, David Raya of Brentford and Robert Sanchez of Brighton for the position.

Who they move for remains to be seen in the future but it’s clear that they are looking to improve in that position in the near future and a transfer is possible.
