Man Utd looking to sign Argentina World Cup hero
Manchester United are looking to sign a new goalkeeper and have been looking at a host of targets over the last few months.
The likes of Porto’s Diogo Costa and Milan’s Mike Maignan have been linked to the Red Devils in recent times but they are still looking for new options ahead of making a transfer.
They have a new target in mind now: Argentina’s World Cup hero Emiliano Martinez, who has done exceptionally well for club and country in recent times.

The 30-year-old has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League and he could be a possible transfer for them next year.

Martinez had a fantastic World Cup, proving crucial in penalty shoot-out quarter-final success against Netherlands and then again in the final over France.

Although he is older than some of Manchester United’s other targets, Football Insider claims the club still have a strong interest in the goalkeeper.
The opportunity to join a club like Manchester United could also be an appealing one for Martinez and he would consider the chance should it arise in the future.
Martinez has a contract with Aston Villa until the summer of 2027 so signing him won’t be cheap and Unai Emery’s club are in a good negotiating position.
David de Gea is in the final months of his contract at Manchester United and it’s unclear whether he will renew his deal, with the club keen to reduce his wage if they are to keep him.

Over the last few years, there have been criticisms of whether De Gea is fit for a modern style of football with his lack of command in the area and ability on his feet proving to be worrying for his club.
Whether Manchester United move for Martinez remains to be seen and should they get him, they will have two members from the Argentina squad in their team, alongside Lisandro Martinez.
