Rashford set to become ‘one of the best-paid players on the planet’

Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford could soon be one of the best-paid players in football as the battle over his future intensifies.

Rashford’s contract with Man Utd is up at the end of the season, but manager Erik ten Hag has indicated that the Red Devils intend to trigger a one-year extension that they have the right to.

United need to act because PSG are still interested in the England international, who was on their summer shortlist.

Indeed, The Mirror reports that the Ligue 1 side could be ready to make the 25-year-old “one of the best-paid players on the planet”.

There is also interest coming from Bayern Munich and Real Betis, according to the paper.

PSG’s contract offer is set to approach €1 million per week (£850,000) and would force the hand of Man Utd to offer a similar deal if they really want to retain him.

However, football transfer expert Ben Jacobs has previously revealed to FootballTransfers that PSG feel they are being played by the player’s entourage, though their interest in Rashford is genuine.

“I think they feel that they’re being a bit used over Rashford by the player’s side. The intent is to get the player to sign a new Manchester United deal, which is his preference. But PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is certainly not ruling Rashford out. He’s had a great World Cup,” he said.

Ten Hag on Rashford contract

Man Utd manager Erik ten Hag is cool over Rashford's future for now.

Speaking about the players out of contract in 2023, he said: "We are talking to them to extend contracts, but we have control because we have an option on all the players and we will exercise those options."

Indeed, PSG are unlikely to make a move for Rashford during the January transfer window with Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe at the club, and if they can get both of their superstar strikers to agree to stay for the 2023/24 season, it may be that the interest in Rashford is dropped for the moment.

Although Man Utd hold the cards with regard the academy graduate, the stakes are being increased.
