Piers Morgan’s Ronaldo obsession has helped destroy his career
Cristiano Ronaldo is close to agreeing a deal with Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, ending his search for a new club and his run at the top level of European football.
Ronaldo has been without a club since the start of the month after his contract at Manchester United was terminated.
That came after his unsanctioned interview with Piers Morgan, where he criticized the club, ownership and manager, amongst other things, leading to him leaving Old Trafford on a sour note.

The interview was a major talking point with regards to Ronaldo for several weeks and it’s fair to suggest it has done the Portuguese star few favours – and perhaps even ended his European career.
Piers Morgan ended Ronaldo's European career
Ronaldo wanted to leave Manchester United long before the interview and he had a few disagreements with Erik ten Hag prior to it, including his refusal to come on as a substitute in a match against Tottenham.
However, the episode with Morgan took things too far, and Ten Hag’s later admission that Ronaldo hadn’t mentioned any of his inconveniences to him made matters even worse.

It made it clear that Ronaldo was heavy baggage, that no club would want to take him on and to have a journalist as notorious and popular as Morgan backing him on the way didn’t help.
Ronaldo is 38 in February, was one of the highest-paid players in world football at Manchester United and his output was declining in terms of goals and overall contribution to the team.
Thanks to everyone who sent me this meme. It’s so horribly mean that I may burst into tears and throw all my toys out of the pram. On a positive note, the people mocking me will then be forced to celebrate my vulnerability, emotional fragility & victimhood and I’ll become a hero! pic.twitter.com/9FFbXrB27U

For any team to take that on was a risk on its own, and to add the Morgan factor to that only made it worse – Manchester United had to take action after the interview aired and they did the right thing in letting Ronaldo go.
Morgan and the interview was a major factor in Ronaldo’s European career likely coming to an end: no one wants him and the baggage that comes with him, and the only real beneficiary have been Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
