Revealed: Man Utd will NOT sign Sommer in January
Borussia Monchengladbach and Switzerland number one Yann Sommer has been heavily linked with a move to Premier League giants Manchester United, but he will reportedly not be joining the Red Devils during the January transfer window.
Sommer, 33, is understood to have been targeted to provide competition for David de Gea, who doesn't quite suit Erik ten Hag's style of playing out from the back.
The Spaniard wasn't included in his country's 26-man squad for the 2022 Qatar World Cup, with Luis Enrique selecting goalkeepers with more ability in possession.

Man Utd have also begun targeting a new goalkeeper with Ten Hag wanting competition for places in between the sticks. Sommer has been identified as an ideal signing, but a transfer will not take place during the winter transfer window, according to Sky Germany.
Martin Dubravka is currently the number two at Old Trafford after joining from Newcastle United in the summer, but the Red Devils are in the market for an improvement in that area of the pitch.
Dean Henderson was loaned out to Nottingham Forest for the 2022/23 campaign, but will return to Man Utd next summer and could fight with De Gea and potentially Sommer for a place in the team.

Sommer to Man Utd next summer?
Sommer's current contract at Gladbach is set to expire in 2023, meaning he will be available on a free transfer if he decided against signing an extended deal at the club he joined back in 2014.
And, according to Sky Germany, Sommer could make a move to Man Utd next summer. A transfer in the January window has been ruled out, but he could join the Premier League giants upon the conclusion of the 2022/23 season.
De Gea himself is set to become a free agent next summer as his deal at Old Trafford is due to expire in 2023, but there is an option for a further year included in his contract. As a result, the Spaniard may end up staying at Old Trafford until 2024.
