Tottenham are open to a few January departures in order to trim their squad ahead of the second half of the season and they have the chance to do so.

Departures could help fund future transfers as well and that would help their ambition of making the Champions League next season.

There are several figures on their books who could make transfers away, either on loan, permanently or making loan moves permanent.

Emerson Royal

Emerson’s time at Tottenham has been bizarre. He joined from Barcelona in 2021 and has rarely played consistently well, with the Brazilian often rotated with Matt Doherty.

He’s often criticized by fans and media for his lack of consistency, and January may give Tottenham a chance to offload the player, with Pedro Porro linked.

Tanguy Ndombele

Ndombele is away on loan at Napoli, who are thriving domestically and in Europe and the Frenchman seems to be enjoying himself in Italy.

That may tempt Napoli to make the move permanent, giving Tottenham the chance to let go of a player who hasn’t delivered since his big money move from Lyon in 2019.

Sergio Reguilon

Like Ndombele, Reguilon is spending time away on loan, except he’s at Atletico Madrid with the player showing little signs that he’ll be a part of Antonio Conte’s plans.

Tottenham can attempt to engineer a permanent move away for Reguilon, a player who is unlikely to break into Conte’s set-up.

Japhet Tanganga

It’s unclear what Tanganga’s position in this Tottenham side is: he’s still young and has plenty of potential but chances have often been limited.

A loan spell away could help and although he won’t be on top of the list players Tottenham will want to let go of, it could help his career.

Djed Spence

Spence’s time at Tottenham has been strange: he arrived with massive potential, many felt he would nail down the wing-back spot and make a big name for himself.

Instead, he’s been frustrated and has made just four appearances for the club this season since signing for them. He needs time away.
