The Blues have endured a torrid time under Graham Potter, slipping down to 10th in the Premier League table and almost out of contention for a top four spot.

With qualification for next season’s Champions League very much under threat, Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has already sanctioned another big spending spree this month, with the results of this already beginning to be felt.

DONE DEALS: January 2023 transfer window in Premier League

Chelsea have so far spent €171.5 million (£152m) on transfers.

The Blues brought in Ivory Coast wonderkid David Datro Fofana for €12m from Molde to mark their first signing of the window. Fofana, 22, was previously a Brighton transfer target, but Chelsea acted quickly after bringing the Seagulls' recruitment team to Stamford Bridge.

Next was the addition of AS Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile for €37m. The young Frenchman signed a seven-and-a-half year deal upon joining, keeping him contracted at the Blues until 2030.

Brazilian wonderkid Andrey Santos has also come through the door at Cobham, with a reported fixed fee of €12.5m plus add-ons being paid for Vasco da Gama midfielder.

Joao Felix was next to join the Blues. The Portugal attacker arrived on loan from Atletico Madrid, with the Spanish side earning €10m from his move. His wages will also be paid in full by the London club.

The latest signing is Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhailo Mudryk, who became Chelsea's second most expensive transfer of all time for a fee of €100m. Chelsea hijacked Arsenal's move for the 22-year-old star.

Chelsea were also in negotiations to buy Argentina World Cup star Enzo Fernandez before talks collapsed. The Benfica central midfielder was one of the breakout players of the 2022 World Cup and his form in Qatar ignited Chelsea's interest in signing him.

Fernandez has a €120m release clause in his Benfica contract, which is a price that Chelsea haven't yet offered despite their desire to sign him this month. However, it seems as though Fernandez is set to stay put at Benfica with the Portuguese giants angered by Chelsea's approach to negotiations.

Chelsea are also looking to do more business in January 2023, with a top-class striker also on their to-do list given the team’s struggled in front of goal this season.

Chelsea spent a world record €282m in total on new players during the summer of 2023.

The London-based team splashed the cash on Wesley Fofana from Leicester, Marc Cucurella from Brighton, Raheem Sterling from Manchester City, Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli, Carney Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa, Cesare Casadei from Inter, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona, Gabriel Slonina from Chicago Fire and Denis Zakaria on loan from Juventus.
