The Blues have problems in their own midfield with N’Golo Kante and Jorginho entering the final months of their deals at Stamford Bridge and news of a renewal unclear.

Chelsea have already invested plenty in the winter transfer window signing players like Mykhaylo Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile and others and have been unafraid to splash the cash.

Complicating this deal could be a problem for Liverpool, who are having midfield problems of their own and are in need to improve their own team.

Chelsea planning hijack

Liverpool targeted Nunes last summer but were beaten to the signing by Wolves, who were quicker to move for him from Sporting, his former club.

The Portuguese has impressed in his short time in the Premier League and has provided further indication that he is the right man to improve this Liverpool side.

Nunes has been an integral part of this Wolves team and having signed him for a fee of around €45 million and will want to recoup that or get more if they do sell him on in the summer.

Their primary objective is Jude Bellingham of Borussia Dortmund but they may face an issue in signing him if they aren’t able to land Champions League football next season.

Chelsea targeted Enzo Fernandez in the start of the window but were unable to complete a deal for him as they were unwilling to pay his high release clause to Benfica.

As a result, the Daily Mail suggest Nunes is now an option as they look to improve their midfield options, which have struggled this season, as has been reflected in their form this season.

Moises Caicedo is another target but Brighton are demanding a high fee for one of the most talented young midfielders in the Premier League.
