Man Utd: Erik ten Hag planning summer swoop for Harry Kane

Manchester United are interested in a sensational summer swoop for Tottenham striker Harry Kane.

Erik ten Hag wants a new No.9 for next season and the England captain Kane is among the club’s preferred options.

The Daily Mail report that Man Utd chiefs have already started exploring how to bring about a deal for the Spurs star, while it is thought that he is open to joining.

The 29-year-old enters the final 12 months of his contract at the end of the season with Spurs, who would like to extend his current deal.

Where and how the side finishes the season, especially with regard to the Champions League, will be a huge factor in whether Kane does decide to stay with the north London club for a longer period.

Kane's price-tag

Spurs have also put an €85million price tag on Kane ahead of the summer window, but this is likely to increase for rival Premier League sides such as Man Utd.

Daniel Levy is reluctant to sell Kane to a domestic rival while Bayern Munich and Real Madrid have been linked with a move in recent days. Bayern held a serious interest in Kane ahead of this season but pulled out owing to costs.

Kane has the ambition to break the Premier League goalscoring record and would rather stay in England to do just that. The striker has scored 198 Premier League goals - which is 62 short of Alan Shearer’s all-time record.

Man Utd know they will be would be getting a ready-made Premier League player but he does turn 30 before the start of next season. Last season they signed 36-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo on a bumper deal, however - while Casemiro, their marquee summer signing, is of veteran age.

As well as Kane, the Red Devils are also keen on Napoli striker Victor Osimhen and Red Bull Salzburg’s Benjamin Sesko. Ten Hag’s decision to sign Wout Weghorst on loan until the end of the season indicates an acceptance that the United boss feels his team lack a genuine goalscoring target man, a role Kane has mastered.

There is no obligation in Man Utd's agreement with Burnley to buy Wout Weghorst in the summer so they are free to bring a fresh face in for that role.
