Man Utd and Bayern Munich battle it out for Harry Kane

Manchester United and Bayern Munich are at the front of the queue to sign Harry Kane should the England striker be tempted away from Tottenham Hotspur.

Kane is Spurs' vice-captain and perennial top scorer, one who has bagged 15 goals from 19 Premier League outings this season, and, outwardly at least, he is happy to stay at White Hart Lane.

But the fact remains that England's No.9 is yet to win a major honour at Tottenham, and speculation is mounting that at 29, and with his current contract expiring in 18 months, he could leave with time running out to make a blockbuster transfer away from the club.

Kane is currently rated at €89.4 million by Football Transfers' in-house algorithm and Spurs chairman Dan Levy is a famously hard-nosed negotiator, so he wouldn't come cheap, even if he could be picked up on a free in the summer of 2024.

2+2=Bayern?

"People tend to put two and two together because Bayern, more often than not, will finish the season with something in their trophy cabinet, and of course, he'd have Champions League football." Football Transfers collaborator and CBS Sports transfer specialist Ben Jacobs wrote in his Caught Offside column.

"[But] I think at the moment he does want to re-sign with Spurs, but if that changes, I think Manchester United and Chelsea could come into the conversation."

United and Chelsea would be more likely than Bayern to spend big on a player approaching his 30s, and the Premier League pair are both looking for a new striker for next season.

Man Utd have signed Wout Wehorst on loan from Burnley to plug their gap at No.9, but there is no option to make the Dutchman's deal permanent at the end of the campaign.

Chelsea have been labouring up front with former midfielder Kai Havertz leading the line, while they are willing to let Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang return to Barcelona if the Spanish club can make it fly with their FA.
