Man Utd to improve Garnacho's contract amid Real Madrid interest

Manchester United are working to sign Alejandro Garnacho to an improved contract after a meteoric rise which has seen the youngster attract admiring glances from Real Madrid.

Madrid-born Garnacho joined United from Atletico Madrid for just €500,000 in October 2020, and had been turning out for the club's age group teams until this season.

But Erik ten Hag has increasingly blooded the 18-year-old for the first team, and his assist for Marcus Rashford's winner in the 2-1 victory over Manchester City on Saturday means Garnacho now has nine goal-involvements from little more than 700 minutes of action.

Real Madrid are reportedly interested in bringing Garnacho back to the Spanish capital, but United aren't feeling under too much pressure with regard to the young winger's future.

'Reds comfortable'

"Club sources [report] that the Reds are comfortable with the position they are at in negotiations, with Garnacho's current deal running until June 2025 with the club having the usual option to extend for a further year," write UtdDistrict.

"They are looking to improve the youngster's terms in order to reflect his recent progression. He is reportedly on £5,000-per-week [€5,600] at the moment."

Garnacho's current pay makes him the joint-lowest earner in the United squad alongside Anthony Elanga. But having pulled ahead of Elanga and even Jadon Sancho in the pecking order of wingers at Old Trafford, he can expect to receive a significant rise.

Other academy graduates like Scott McTominay earn in the region of £60,000 (€68,000) per week, it is understood Garnacho could be set to see his salary increase tenfold.

United extended a number of contracts recently, including Marcus Rashford's and Diogo Dalot's, whilst they have introduced a new "Ronaldo rule" meaning that no player will break the wage structure - capped at £200,000 (€226,000) a week, going forward.
