The Ligue 1 sides were competing against Lille in the Coup de France when the defender was substituted, having sustained what looks like a hamstring pull.

On 33 minutes, manager Laurent Blanc took off the new Blues player and brought on Castello Lukeba.

Chelsea bought Gusto in the January window but allowed him to be loaned back to Lyon for the remainder of the season.

The move, which was agreed upon at £26.3m, saw the 19-year-old pen a deal that would see him remain at Stambridge Bridge until June 2030.

The Blues were keen to bring in a right-back alternative to Reece James and Gusto was deemed a suitable choice.

Their initial approach was knocked back by Lyon, with their Jean-Michel Aulas publicly declaring Gusto 'will continue to play' for Lyon until the conclusion of this campaign.

The youngster will make the move to west London along with Christopher Nkunku, who finalised a £53m deal to sign from RB Leipzig.

Gusto took to Chelsea's official Instagram page after confirmation of the switch materialised. He wrote: “Hey Chelsea fans, I am very happy to be here. Thank you for your messages and I will see you soon.”

The player made 54 appearances for Lyon's first-team in three years, becoming a regular player in their starting line-up.

The teenager represented Chelsea's seventh signing of this window - with Enzo Fernandez, who moved from Benfica for a British record fee of £106.8m, being their eighth and final of that period.

The club had looked to Brighton's Moises Caicedo and Everton's Amadou Onana as alternatives to Fernandez.

The Argentine made his debut for Chelsea in the side’s dour 0-0 draw with Fulham, being one of their standout performers on the night.
