Man Utd and Man City join Liverpool in the hunt for Chelsea's Mason Mount

Chelsea and England star Mason Mount has attracted interest from the Premier League's biggest clubs following news of contract extension talks stalling at Stamford Bridge.

The 24-year-old's current deal at his boyhood club is set to expire in 2024, and he reportedly wants to see his weekly wage increased to match the highest earners at the West London club. Mount's £80,000 per week salary means he is one of the lowest-paid players in the Blues squad.

Advancements in talks have not progressed , and interested parties have begun to take notice of his potential availability this summer.

Liverpool have been long-term admirers of Mount, and will reportedly make a move for him this summer, while Manchester United and Manchester City have joined Jurgen Klopp's side in the race to sign the England international, according to ESPN.

The report has detailed that Mount is yet to push for a move away from the club he grew up playing for, but interest has begun to build quickly.

Juventus are another club who have also reportedly hinted at their desire to sign Mount as they look to rebuild their midfielder after the departures of Rodrigo Bentancur, Arthur Melo, Aaron Ramsey and Weston McKennie in recent years.

Man Utd, Man City and Liverpool have all been linked with signing a new central midfielder this summer, with Jude Bellingham wanted by all three, but Mount may prove to be a cheaper and more achievable target if a contract extension at Chelsea isn't sorted soon. Joao Felix's return from suspension has seen Graham Potter switch formation in the Blues' previous two fixtures, with Mount left on the bench on both occasions.

Furthermore, there have been reports suggesting that Mount could be used by Chelsea in their efforts to sign Felix on a permanent deal this summer.

Mount's poor form

One reason why Chelsea have been unwilling to match Mount's wage demands might be because of his form this season.

After winning the club's 'Player of the Year' award in back-to-back seasons, the Englishman has dropped off massively this term, netting just three goals and assisting two in the Premier League in 2022/23.

He has been majorly criticised by Chelsea fans and his place in the starting XI is no longer a guarantee after the Blues' January spending spree.

However, it remains to be seen whether Chelsea will bite the bullet and offer Mount the terms he wants, or whether the 24-year-old will decide to move to pastures new.
