Five managers who could replace Graham Potter at Chelsea
Graham Potter’s reign at Chelsea goes from bad to worse.
On Sunday, the Blues lost 2-0 at London rivals Tottenham.
This maintained a dreadful run of form for Chelsea and in the process piled on the pressure on Potter.
The English manager has endured a miserable time of things since taking over from Thomas Tuchel in September.
Chelsea have won just one of their last 11 games in all competitions in 2023, and two of their last 16 - losing 10 of these games.
This has resulted in Chelsea finding themselves down in tenth position in the Premier League, 14 points off Champions League qualification.
Inevitably this has led to growing calls from Chelsea fans for Potter to be sacked.
It has been widely reported up until now that Potter isn’t at risk of imminently being sacked.
However, given Chelsea’s terrible run of form, this could soon change if things continue as they are.
Fichajes has reported that there are four big-name managers in the frame to replace Potter if and when he does get the chop.
Managers who could replace Potter
Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane is seen as an attractive proposition by Chelsea owner Todd Boehly after achieving incredible success at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Former Barcelona and Spain national team coach Luis Enrique is also on the shortlist, having impressed with both of these teams - famously winning the treble with the Blaugrana in 2015.
Another Spanish-based manager who is being considered is Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone, who could be ready for a new challenge after more than a decade in the Spanish capital.
And, finally, former Tottenham and PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino is also seen as an upgrade on Potter.
There is a fifth manager that the bookmakers believe is in the frame to replace Potter; Jose Mourinho! It would spell the third stint in charge for The Special One.
However, Mourinho is unlikely to join during the season as he is currently coaching Roma. He has a contract there until 2024 but it is not impossible that a deal could be done to return to Chelsea in the summer.
As it stands, Potter still may have some time to save his job but if he doesn’t turn things round soon, then these five managers will be in the frame to replace him.
