Lingard one of 27 Premier League players earning more than £10m a year
Jesse Lingard is one of 27 Premier League players earning more than £10 million a year in wages, highlighting the huge financial pulling power of England’s top division.
Lingard, who plays for 14th place Nottingham Forest, signed a one-year contract worth £10.4m with the newly-promoted side last summer and reportedly earns the same amount as England captain Harry Kane at Tottenham.
The data, complied by Spanish outlet Marca via sportac, states that Kevin de Bruyne is the highest earner in the Premier League, making £20.8m a year at Manchester City.
WAGES: How much do Man City players earn?
Of the 27 players earning more than £10m, just Lingard, Kane and Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus play for a club other than City, Manchester United, Chelsea or Liverpool.
The four big-spending sides boast wage bills of more than £150m, with Tottenham the next highest spenders at £110m.
Lingard is the biggest earner to play for a team who aren’t playing in European competitions and the Forest forward’s salary would put him among the highest-paid players in leagues such as Serie A, Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga.
How do salaries compare in Europe?
The highest earner in the Bundesliga is believed to be Sadio Mane, who is understood to be earning around £19m a year after joining Bayern Munich last summer.
According to Capology, the top 12 earners in the Bundesliga all play for Bayern ahead of Dortmund’s Sebastien Haller who makes £9.6m, £400,000 less than Lingard at Forest.
In La Liga, there are a number of players on more than £10m, however most of them are made up of Real Madrid and Barcelona players, although Jan Oblak of Atletico Madrid is one of the best paid players in the league at £18.2m.
Frenkie de Jong and Sergio Busquets are both reported to be earning an astonishing £32m each this year, likely inflated due to salary deferral agreements they had with Barcelona.
LEVERS: How much do Barca players earn?
Unsurprisingly in Ligue 1, Kylian Mbappe’s £63m salary is among the highest in the world and 14 Paris Saint-Germain players are paid more than stars from any other team, with Wissam Ben Yedder earning £6.8m at Monaco.
Juventus and Inter Milan boast the highest salaries in Serie A, although Dusan Vlahovic’s £11.3m contract is significantly lower than teams around Europe despite being the biggest contract in the league, showcasing the gulf between the major divisions on the continent.
