Arsenal told to pay SIX times Caicedo's value

Arsenal have been informed to play SIX times the value of Moises Caicedo by Brighton.

The Gunners, who had bids turned down for the midfielder in the January window, have been told by the Seagulls’ CEO that an offer must come in over the top of the player’s ETV.

FootballTransfers values the Ecuadorian at €25.8million - but Brighton CEO Paul Barber has claimed it would be a fair bit more.

The executive told The Beautiful Game podcast following Arsenal’s attempts in the winter window to buy the player.

“It was only sufficient if they wanted half the player. Joking aside, we don’t provide numbers. It amuses us when we see numbers in the media because they've not come from us.”

It remains to be seen if Brighton sell the youngster in the summer. Caicedo had issued a social media post during January in which he said his thanks and goodbyes to the Brighton supporters - but a move never materialised.

Subsequent to this, Caicedo signed fresh terms at the Amex Stadium - a move that would significantly put his value up if Brighton were to decide to move the player on for a fee in the upcoming transfer window.

Manchester United and the Gunners continued to be linked, as do Chelsea. Speaking about the saga on TalkSport, Barber said: “There was never a moment in this window where we felt we needed or wanted to sell Moises.

“He’s only 20 years of age, he needed an arm around the shoulder, he needed a bit of support from everybody. We know that his head was turned, we understand why, but we also felt he had a job to do here and he was on a good contract, a long contract.”
