Arsenal 'bet heavily' on Barcelona prodigy
Arsenal are emerging as a possible destination for Barcelona talent Ilias Akhomach.
The 18-year-old has starred for Barcelona B in Spain's third division, the Primera Federación – Group 2, but he will not be renewing his contract, according to SPORT.
A hot commodity due to his impressive performances at the youth level, Akhomach is available on a free transfer in the summer, and this prospect has led to many a big side taking a keen interest in the winger.

Among the parties monitoring the situation are Premier League outfit Leeds United, described by SPORT as "having an advantage," while Sevilla and Milan are also lurking. Now, however, a new candidate has appeared.
Arsenal enter the race
As the Spanish outlet reports, Arsenal have been keeping tabs on the man from Hostalets de Pierola for a while, and they are firmly "in the running." No official offer has been made at this point, but the player would certainly be a good fit for the Gunners.

SPORT's German Bona believes that the 18-year-old would be a hit in the Premier League due to his style of play. Indeed, "English football seems like an ideal scenario for the characteristics of Ilias Akhomach," he says. "Arsenal is a club that is always attentive to emerging stars and the talent of the Barça winger has not gone unnoticed."

Regardless of where Akhomach ultimately ends up, it will be a big blow for Barcelona to lose such a talented youngster. Ultimately, however, they only have themselves to blame, as SPORT elucidates.
"In any case, in the next few days, weeks at the most, there may be a final decision on the future of Ilias. Barça will be left without one of its jewels, but...no effort has been made to retain a player who is very culé."
