Chelsea are angry after news that they have received an approach from Bayern Munich for highly-rated coach Anthony Barry by their former coach Thomas Tuchel went public.

The Blues are disappointed with the German for making his interest public, reports The Telegraph.

The report suggests that Barry is interested in linking up with Tuchel again in Germany, but no compensation for the 36-year-old has been forthcoming so far.

Tuchel admitted that he wants to take the coach as part of his Bayern backroom team in his first press conference as Bayern manager.

Taking the hot seat after succeeding Julian Nagelsmann, the manager said: “My coaching staff wasn't prepared either, so a big thank you to their families for their flexibility. Arno Michels and Zsolt Low, who have been working with me for over ten years, will be there. We're hoping to add Anthony Barry, who is currently at Chelsea.”

Chelsea know that there may face an uphill battle in keeping hold of Barry, who was brought to the west London side by Frank Lampard - but are annoyed that it’s become public knowledge nonetheless.

Tuchel was sacked by Chelsea in September, having spent just three months in the dugout following the Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital takeover.

Chelsea and Tuchel to face off again

The way things are in the Champions League, Chelsea may face Tuchel and Bayern if both qualify for the semi-finals.

Tuchel won the 2021 Champions League with Chelsea, their second title, after taking over from Lampard.

Barry is under contract at Stamford Bridge and so Chelsea must agree to his release even if he desires to move to Germany.

After Lampard was dismissed, Barry remained with Chelsea and worked under Tuchel. He remains there as a member of Graham Potter’s first-team staff.

Barry’s previous credentials include the Republic of Ireland, while he served under Roberto Martinez for Belgium in the World Cup.
