Naysayers of Liverpool additions Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez were forced to eat their words as the pair utterly obliterated Manchester United at Anfield.

Gakpo opened the scoring with a well-taken goal, just moments after Casemiro's headed goal was ruled out for offside at the opposite end of the pitch.

Early in the second half, Nunez doubled the Reds’ lead, after Harvey Elliot laid one off for him to finish.

Gakpo made it 3-0 shortly after, with Mohamed Salah slipping in the Dutchman, who beat David de Gea from a tight angle.

Nunez was on hand again, after a counter-attack, to force through a rebound and put the Eygpitan through on goal, who lashed home.

The Latin American was then given his brace from a corner, before Salah made it 6-0. Roberto Firmino, on for a cameo, made it 7-0, to pile on Man Utd's misery.

The signings coming good

Nunez was Liverpool’s marquee signing in the summer, arriving from Benfica for €75 million fee plus €25m in add-ons. It’s been a capricious start to life with his new club, but finally, it seems, that he has clicked into gear.

Meanwhile, Gakpo has found his feet as well - the first few games after his move from PSV Eindhoven, signing a deal with the Reds paying somewhere between €40m to €50m, he struggled with life in the Premier League.

The pair, now lacing Liverpool’s frontline with Salah, has come under criticism for their lack of attacking input and, at times, poor proficiency in front of goal.

But more recent games have shown them clicking, while the 7-0 win over Man United is an indication of what they can really give when hitting all cylinders.
